Why Dana Cup?

What is it over the past 27 years that has made Dana Cup, Hjørring, Denmark’s largest sporting event and one of the world’s most international soccer tournaments for youth teams?

• Participation takes place in a secure environment and you get the opportunity to enjoy some marvellous experiences in some of the loveliest parts of Denmark.

• You have the chance to meet thousands of young people from all around the world and you always get to play in international groups.
• All games are played on excellent grass fields on one of Northern Europe’s best football arenas.
• A fantastic organisation that administrates over 2000 games for 800 teams from around 40 different nations, with a high standard of service.

This is why more and more clubs over the last 27 years have made Dana Cup their yearly getaway. With trainers, leaders, parents, referees and supporters from all around the world, Dana Cup is again expecting more than 25.000 people to arrive at Dana Cup 2008.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The tournament will start with a parade of teams into Hjorring Stadium on Monday evening. The soccer tournament itself, which will start the next day:

First Round: The teams will be divided into groups of 4 or possibly 5 teams, with each team playing all the others in the group. These matches will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Second Round: The second round will operate on a knock out basis. The teams placed 1st and 2nd in the first round will play in the second round "A". The remaining teams will play in the second round "B".

Finals: The finals in the 7 a side classes will be played on Friday, as well as the A finals in class B 13, G 19 and G 17. All other finals will be played on Saturday.

PRIZES
All participants will receive a certificate. Each team will also receive a beautiful team photo.

All group winners in the preliminary matches will receive a Dana Cup plaque (one plaque per team). The finalists in the second round "A" will receive cups and medals. The teams placed 3rd in the second round (the two losing teams from the semi-finals) will receive the same.

There are cups for the finalists in the second round "B".

There is also a prize for the best player in each of the finals in the second round "A".

A special cup will be given to the best visiting club of the tournament.

There are "Ariel Fair Play" trophies for the best teams in both girls and boys classes.

PARTICIPATION DETAILS
The Dana Cup A-Card: Covers participation in the tournament, 3 meals per day from Monday evening the 21st of July to Saturday lunchtime the 26th of July, 2008 and accommodation in a school. Remember to bring your own mattress and sleeping bag. It is possible to rent a mattress or bed.

The participation fee (A-Card) also includes:

• Free admission to the Hjørring outdoor swimming pool
• Free admission to our indoor swimming pools
• Free admission to Hjørring museums
• Free admission to the Dana Cup discotheque
• Free transport with Dana Cup buses
• Discount to Fårup Sommerland (Fun Park)
• Discount to Nordsømuseum (Aquarium)

ACCOMMODATION
The basic tournament package includes school accommodation, this offers a low cost but fun way to spend your nights in Denmark; it is a very popular option. However it is possible for teams to upgrade from school accommodation to hotel or apartment accommodations. Contact us for further information and prices.

Dana Cup can also offer accommodation to parents and any others who are interested and wish to watch the tournament. It will be possible to choose from the following options:• Hotel accommodation
• Accommodation in youth hostels/boarding houses etc
• Caravan hire
• Private accommodation
• Or you can bring your own caravan and put it on our Dana Cup’s Family Camping Place.

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION
Travel for teams arriving by ferry to Frederikshavn, Hanstholm, Skagen or Hirtshals, by air to Aalborg or by train to Hjørring is included in the tour cost.

During the tournament, bus transport between the schools, the Dana Cup’s Center (Vendiahallen) and the playing fields is included. The buses will normally run every half an hour between 6.30 am and midnight.

LEADERS PARTY
Every club will receive two leader cards to the Leader Meeting held on Tuesday night the 22nd of July between 8.30 pm and 11.30 pm. This event offers a wonderful dinner and entertainment plus every leader will receive a free Dana Cup Leader T-Shirt.

TYPICAL TOUR ITINERARY
Monday 21st July: Travel to Denmark. Upon arrival, transfer to your accommodation. This evening is the Opening Ceremony of the 27th Dana Cup, the superb grand parade of teams takes place at 7.30 pm into Hjorring stadium.

Tuesday 22nd July: Dana Cup qualifying games begin today. Teams play on a league basis on Tuesday and Wednesday. All games are played on excellent grass fields. This evening, and every evening there is a huge disco arranged for the players.

Wednesday 23rd July: Qualifying games continue today. Teams placed in the top two of their group will progress to the A second round stage; the remaining teams will play in the B second round.

Thursday 24th July: Dana Cup Round 2 games start today, on a knockout basis. Remember that all Dana Cup participants enjoy free admission to the Hjorring museums, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and discounts to Farup Summerland aqua theme park.

Friday 25th July: Tournament Finals' Day - crowds of 10,000 plus will be watching ….maybe they’ll be watching your team!

Saturday 26th July: Return to the airport for your flight back to the UK – is Dana Cup in your baggage?
