The Area
Salou Beach

Salou is a fabulous destination for anyone searching for a little Spanish sun, sea and sand. It is a popular destination for families and is readily accessible via Reus International Airport which is only seven miles away.

Salou has become one of the main tourist areas of Costa Dorada, with over two million visitors a year, many of these visitors come for its superb beaches. The coastline of Salou enjoys eight main beaches, each with fine golden sand and inviting shallow waters due to the long beach and slow tide.  The beaches themselves are quite varied, some beaches consisting of long plains of sand, some mixing with the beachfront hotels and bars, while others have coved areas sheltered with pine trees giving a more intimate feel.

The shopping in Salou has everything you could possibly want. During your stay, you can find everything from basic staples, to boutiques with the latest fashions and sporting goods, to lovely or kitschy souvenirs to remember your stay. Salou is also home to all the top fashion brand shops.

The shops in Salou are in three broad areas:

Ponent: This shopping area is open throughout the year and located around Carrer Barcelona. There is everything you could need to live in Salou, as well as the municipal market. There is an open-air market here on Mondays.

Jaume I: This large shopping area is laid out along the promenade, and you can find fashion, souvenirs, entertainment… open during the high tourist season.

Llevant: From Plaza Europa to cape Salou, this area has souvenirs, restaurants, supermarkets with fresh seasonal products… open during the high season.

Fashion and brand names: A commitment to quality and authenticity are two of the key elements in Salou’s shops that in recent years have become especially specialised in designer clothing by all the large brands.

A new and exciting shop this year on Passeig Jaume I is the official FC Barcelona shop, where you can find all the official sports equipment, t-shirts and gear for all Barça.

Salou has many activities for both children and grown ups. Port Aventura Theme Park, owned by Universal, is a fantastic modern theme park built around the basis of five worlds, with rides to match the theme of each world.   The park also has 25 live shows a day as well as restaurants and bars.

Salou also has two water parks – Aquaopolis and Aqualeon.  While both are filled with the slides and pools you would expect from a waterpark,  Aqualeon also has a zoo with a large selection of animals.

seafood paella

Local restaurants in Salou serve mainly Catalan dishes, many of which are based on fresh fish caught in the local clear waters, but also incorporates many traditional Spanish dishes such as paella.

Plenty of restaurants in Salou will serve traditional foods alongside fast-foods such as burgers, pizzas and hot dogs.  A coastal town, Salou favours seafood in its local gastronomy; there are some excellent bars and restaurants in the town and along the coast where you can enjoy the delicious catch of the day. Salou boasts many bars, pubs, flamenco shows and nightclubs to keep you entertained until the early hours of the morning.
