Trofeo Delfino

For the past twenty years, this tournament, held in Rimini, has served as a meeting point for teams all over Europe: from Sweden to Sicily and France to Romania. Each year, hundreds of teams take part in this classic event on the Adriatic coast.

This success has not come unearned: the organisers have made sure of it by putting on an excellent tournament for its guests year in, year out.

Spacious beaches, vibrant boulevards, cosy terraces and, most importantly, a welcoming vibe – this is what makes the seaside town of Rimini so popular among holidaymakers both in Italy and abroad. Add in an exciting international competition and you have all the ingredients for a wonderful tournament.

Tournament Programme

Friday Afternoon: Arrival: check-in with welcome address and information at Romeo Neri stadium, the home ground of Rimini Football Club. You will be informed in person about your stay and the tournament.

Friday Evening: Team leader meeting: welcome reception arranged by the organisers for the team leaders.

Saturday Daytime: Start of the match programme. The tournament will be played at various locations close to the hotels where your team stays.

The main venue is the Tropical Coriano sports park with 4 pitches. The finals are played in the stadium of AC Tropical Coriano and professional club AC Rimini. The matches will be officiated by referees from FIGC Emilia Romagna.

Saturday Evening: Welcome ceremony in Romeo Neri stadium with music, a show and a parade.

Sunday Daytime: Continuation of the match programme. Qualification matches and finals followed by the prize-giving ceremony in Romeo Neri stadium.

Sunday Afternoon: UEFA Respect ceremony: every participant receives a medal on the podium.

Sunday Evening: Free time. See tourist information for some handy tips.

Monday Morning: Departure.

Accommodation

The tournament offers stays in various hotels close to where the matches are played. All are either 2 or 3 stars.

A typical 2-star hotel will be standard tourist hotels in the south of Rimini within walking distance of the popular sandy beach on the Adriatic. Where they are situated is between the Lungomare and the parallel Viale Regina Margherita and offers various lively shopping, streets with café-bars, terraces and restaurants.

The historic centre with the beautiful Piazza Cavour is about 4 miles away but can easily be reached by public transport.

Most accommodations are smaller family hotels with 20-40 functionally furnished rooms with single and double beds and bunk beds, modest bathroom with shower and toilet.

Generally, the name of the accommodation will be provided 2 weeks before arrival.

Among the three-star hotels you can stay in is Hotel Apogeo.

Only 150 yards from the beach and situated in the Marina Centro area of Rimini, it is surrounded by a summer pool with mood lighting and offers free WiFi and a restaurant. Its rooms have a balcony with some that face the garden, the pool or the Adriatic Sea. Including a satellite TV and a seating area, they have a bathroom with hairdryer. A buffet with sweet and savoury items is provided each morning in the restaurant, which specialises in national cuisine.

You can spend the day on 1 of the 2 private beaches providing discounts for all the guests. Alternatively, you can sunbathe on the terrace by the pool, which is equipped with sun loungers and deckchairs.

Another 3-star choice is Hotel Bagli-Cristina which is located in Rimini’s Rivazzurra. It is a 2-minute walk from the Adriatic Sea coast. It offers free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool and rooms with a balcony.

Classic-style rooms at the Cristina come with a flat-screen TV and tiled floors. The private bathroom is complete with a hairdryer and free toiletries. All rooms have single or double beds, a bathroom with shower, safe and heating.

The daily breakfast is served buffet-style, including homemade cakes and hot drinks. There is also a bar and restaurant.

About the area

Rimini is the largest Italian resort on the Adriatic coast. The city has two different faces. In the western part of the city is the old centre with Roman monuments, such as the Arch of Augustus, the Tiberius Bridge and the medieval castle of Malatesta. In the eastern part, you will find the attractive new city with 9 miles of beautiful beaches and a variety of entertainment.

Along the Lungomare (boulevard) are numerous little bars, discos and open-air venues. Just behind the boulevard is the most famous shopping street, the Viale Vespucci.

Places to visit/things to do include –

San Marino: 12 miles inland from Rimini is the small state of San Marino, close to the Alps. The capital is also called San Marino. In this city, you’ll find three castles, but the centre is also popular for its many shops, bars, pizzerias and restaurants.

Mirabilandia Amusement Park Mirabilandia amusement park is 15 miles to the north of Rimini. The beautiful green park boasts many attractions, spread across seven areas. Each area has its own small shops, restaurants and ice cream cafes. At Mirabilandia you only have to pay a single entry price for all attractions. There are several rollercoasters, a log flume and a range of shows. A great day out for all the family.

Getting There

Rimini does have its own airport but only Ryan Air fly there from London-Stansted.

The nearest airport is Ancona which is 53 miles away. Ryan Air flies there also from London-Stansted. Easyjet also fly there from London-Gatwick.
